ELEVATE YOUR ENFORCEMENT WITH
BIKE PATROL TRAINING
We offer an in-depth 4-part bike patrol course that will give your officers the necessary knowledge and skills needed to patrol safely and effectively.
This is an eight-hour bike patrol course that will cover the basic skills, riding, and safety tactics needed for a student to utilize a bike as an important tool for all patrol applications. The goal of this course is to instill essential bike knowledge and skills that students will use to safely and effectively perform their duties at the highest level. Individuals are recommended to be in good physical shape, have prior riding experience, and arrive in uniform if possible (comfortable clothing suited for training is highly recommended). Lunch is provided free of charge for all students.

ON-SITE CLASSES
To best accommodate your department, we offer training for as few or as many officers as you need. Departments can also combine students from other agencies at their discretion. If you have a low amount of officers that need bike patrol training, Contact Us to schedule your department for either a stand-alone training or to join another department currently on schedule.
BASIC BIKE PATROL TECHNIQUES
We train officers how to perform a multitude of basic riding techniques, such as mounting and dismounting, emergency stops, slow maneuvers, curb hops, reversals, and more. All of which will help to ensure your officers can perform their duties safely and effectively. In addition, we also cover traffic safety, nutrition, basic bike maintenance, bike positioning, and other contact skills as standard training topics. If your department requires officers to learn additional skills relative to your patrol environment, you can Contact Us ahead of your training, and we can implement them into the class (requires proper notice).
SUPPLIED EQUIPMENT
- Patrol Bike Rentals: ABPS can provide rental patrol bikes upon request. This allows officers to practice their techniques without causing any damage to their department's bikes. Using our rentals also voids any liability for officers or their departments for any damage caused to the bikes during the bike patrol training.
- ABPS Gloves (yours to keep): We provide gloves for your officers to use while riding to help protect their hands during their training. The top of the gloves contains an anti-sweat mesh cloth texture to help remove any potential debris from the officer's face, while the bottom has tough padding that provides padded protection for the officer's hands.
- ABPS 20oz Water Bottle (yours to keep): A perfect-size water bottle that fits a majority of water bottle bike cages, ensuring the officers are well hydrated while training and on bike patrol.
- Patrol Helmet (yours to keep): A breathable patrol helmet with ah viser to ensure the officer's head is protected at all times while training.
- Course Materials: All materials required for the course will be provided. This includes course booklests, testing materials, certificates & officer evaluations, and final scores.
CERTIFICATE UPON COMPLETION
Officers receive a certification of completion upon passing both the written and practical applications. Certifications will expire one year from the printed date and are subject to renewal via our online recertification course.
PLEASE NOTE:
By using our equipment, officers are not responsible for any damages that occur in class. Use of personal equipment is the sole responsibility of the officer. All equipment will meet A.N.S.I. requirements as mandated by U.S. safety standards.
THE ADVANTAGES
OF BIKE PATROL
ACCESS TO
MORE AREAS
One of the primary benefits of bike patrol is that it allows officers to reach areas not accessible by cars, such as plazas, college campuses, and other confined areas within a city. Officers on bicycles can quickly respond to incidents and calls for service while covering a larger area than traditional foot patrols.
LESS
THREATENING
Officers on bicycles are often perceived as more approachable and less intimidating compared to those in patrol cars. This increased visibility not only deters potential criminal activity but also encourages members of the public to seek out officers when needed.
COMMUNITY
ORIENTED
Bike patrol places officers in the heart of their communities, facilitating more chances to have positive interactions with residents.
GREATER
STEALTH
Due to their smaller, more stealthy profile, bicycles can fit and maneuver in areas that traditional patrol vehicles couldn't. In addition, bike patrol officers naturally keep a smaller, less obvious profile than your traditional law enforcement vehicle, allowing them to be less noticeable to potential suspects or persons of interest.
USE OF ALL
THE SENSES
A patrol bicycle allows officers to use their senses of sight, smell, and hearing to a greater degree, allowing more opportunities to witness crime.
HEALTH
BENEFITS
Your bike patrol officers can receive health benefits from their physical exertion during bike patrol, which over time, could lower healthcare costs.
Once you complete and pass your in-person Bike Patrol course with American Bike Patrol Services, you qualify for our online recertification program! If you haven't been on a bike patrol unit for some time, it is recommended that you instead take our in-person course to refresh your skills. Click the link above to get started.
